John is originally from ‘up north’ just outside of Manchester. He started surfing in 1993 in North Wales and has been surfing ever since. He studied Sport Science at university and then moved to Devon to Work at Surf South West in 2005. John has been one of our two head instructors since 2007 leading our group holidays around Europe, Central America and recently to Sri Lanka. John is a trainer and assessor for the Royal Lifesaving Society and runs beach lifeguard courses from our training centre at Croyde. He also is accredited by the International Surfing Association to deliver surf instructor qualifications in the UK. When John isn’t working at Surf South West, he is busy working for Surfing GB, where he is the manager of the British junior surfing squad. He still regularly surfs in North Devon and still travels the world to surf in warmer climates as much as he can.
