The Surf
Portugal is a nation renowned for great surf and we have picked the most versatile area for our latest destination. Peniche is a famous surfing region with a huge variety of wave options within a surprisingly small area. Our base is ideally located to take advantage of mellow beach-breaks for beginners, steeper beach-breaks for improvers and a reef for improvers and experts, all within walking distance of your accommodation. If you are looking to improve your surfing, Surf South West’s senior instructors will be on hand to offer coaching and guidance for all ability levels. Our proven coaching techniques including video analysis will ensure your surfing progresses to the next level. Take your own board or hire locally, the choice is yours.
The Location
Peniche is located an hour’s drive north of Lisbon and our accommodation is based in Baleal, a small village a few minutes outside of the town. Baleal is surrounded by the sea and with fantastic beaches is slowly growing from a sleepy fishing community to a popular holiday destination. The village has a number of local restaurants and beach bars to choose from as well as a couple of surf shops.
The Accommodation
We are staying in a small complex of five apartments just 2 minutes walk from the beaches. The apartments are spacious and clean with lounge/diner, TV, bedrooms, kitchen and bathroom. Some rooms have sea views and there is a communal courtyard with BBQ and a path from the complex directly to the beach. Bedroom linen is provided and if your are travelling alone we will team you up with others to reduce the cost. The accommodation is on a self-catering bases with a supermarket nearby for provisions. In the evenings everyone is invited to a group meal in a local restaurant or we arrange a BBQ at the apartments.
Other Activities
Mountain biking – bikes for hire nearby. Sightseeing – historic towns of Peniche and Obidos a short drive away. Wildlife watching – protected nature reserve of Berlenga Island a boat trip away.
The Cost
Self-catering accommodation per person including transfers to and from Lisbon airport and surf coaching and instruction (for all levels) every day.
Shared apartment - shared room with own bed: £369 per person
Shared Apartment - own room: £479 per person
One bedroom apartment - suitable for a couple: £385 per person
Board Hire - approx £10 per day, Wetsuit Hire - approx £5 per day.
