Learn to Surf at Croyde Bay and Saunton Sands in Devon

Surf South West have helped over 10,000 people of all ages to ride their first wave through our surfing courses, a unique, truly unforgettable experience which is impossible to describe.

It's surprising how quickly learning to surf can be achieved with the correct instruction and the right equipment. We have the know-how to get you on your feet in the shortest possible time. Many people ask us how long does it take to learn to surf. After a weekend course with us, the vast majority of participants are standing up and riding waves.

Our 'Learn to Surf' surfing courses range from a two hour session to a five day course, offering a range of options whether you're looking for a brief introduction or a chance to make considerable progress. All our courses include wetsuits and surfboards suited to your size and ability

As the weekend course is our most popular, here is an example of what you can expect. Please note start times may vary.

Saturday 10.15am
Meet us at the surf school, change into wetsuits and pick up a surfboard. Head to the beach for a 15/20 minute introduction covering: the surfboard, catching waves, standing up techniques and safety information. Then it's into the sea for your first taste of surfing. You'll probably be a bit unstable at first, but by the end of the morning session you will have successfully caught many waves lying down and may even find yourself momentarily
on your feet.

12.30pm
Back to the surf school for lunch, provided by us, plus unlimited tea and coffee and a chance to recount the morning's exploits!

1.30pm
Back to the surf for a quick refresher on the sand before entering the sea where you'll start to feel more in control under the watchful eye of our instructors.

3.30pm
It's time to head back to the surf school to dry off, relax and discuss plans for the evening.

Sunday-10.15am
Meet up at the surf school for the morning session during which the vast majority of course members are amazed to find themselves standing up and surfing. Some will already be progressing onto a few basic moves and having a go on our intermediate boards.

12.30pm
Everyone returns to the surf school with wide grins all round! Some stay and complete the long weekend course, finishing Monday lunchtime, while others return home, tired, but completely hooked on surfing.
