The Surf

In our previous trips to Costa-Rica, we have found it to be the perfect destination for a group surf holiday in tropical waters. The consistently small to medium sized waves are clean and not too powerful, making it an ideal location for improving and enjoying your surfing. You can either take your own board or hire locally and all ability levels are welcome, most of the surfers that travel with us are beginners and intermediates. And the weather? Air temperatures range from 25 to 30°C and water temperature is 25 to 28°C(82°F)… wetsuits are definitely not required! And of course Surf South West's senior instructors will be on hand to offer coaching and guidance every day.

The Location

With a tropical climate, perfect waves, and stunning scenery, Costa-Rica is an unspoilt paradise and has become an established group trip since our first visit in 2000. Located in Central America, our base in Costa-Rica is Playa Jaco, a coastal town bordering the Pacific Ocean with consistent waves breaking on the palm-fringed sands.

The Accommodation

The accommodation consists of self-contained studio units literally steps from the beach located around a pool and tropical gardens. Playa Jaco is a relaxed town with restaurants, bars and a few clubs situated a short distance from the beachfront.

The Cost

Accommodation/Transfers/Coaching/Guidance: Cost is £589 for bed and breakfast accommodation in San Jose and self catering accomodation in Playa Jaco (based on 2 sharing), airport transfers in Costa Rica, transfers to and from Playa Jaco and daily surf coaching with our qualified instructors. Surfboards can be hired locally for approx. $10 daily (approx. £6).

The flights

Current cost is £556 plus taxes for return flights with British Airways and American Airlines but please be aware that these costs can fluctuate daily. To book these flights please contact Robinson Travel, tel: 01271 812504. There is a charge for surfboard carriage of $70 (approx. £38) on the return leg but in previous trips this has sometimes been waived at check-in. You are free to shop around for flights but please be aware that if you arrive at different times on different flights there may be additional costs incurred with transfers to accommodation. Surf South West do not book flights, however we can assist you in obtaining good prices from Robinson Travel, a retail agent for an ATOL holder. We will negotiate the provisional arrangements for your flights that are appropriate to your itinerary and then put you in touch direct with Robinson Travel for you to pay and book your flights. In return Robinson Travel will confirm your flight times and invoice you separately. Please note that we do not take payment for flights ourselves, however by ensuring that you are booking with a retail agent for an ATOL holder you can be assured that your flights are financially protected under an ATOL licence. Other Activities

If you tire of surfing perfect waves, Jaco is a good base to take organised day trips to view some of the amazing sights on offer. Among the highlights are the many preserved tropical rainforests rich with wildlife such as monkeys, sloths and armadillos! For a more dramatic sight, a few hours drive into the hinterland leads to volcanic peaks, still active and throwing out smoke and lava, as they have for centuries. Of course many visitors to the country are content to relax on the beach under the shade of a palm tree!
