With Christmas over and the New Year well underway, we have been busy at the surf school planning and preparing for the start of the 2017 season. With winter now in full swing, cold water surfs and ice cream headaches instantly make us think back to our annual group coaching holidays in sunny Sri Lanka at the end of 2016. There is a saying that 'Life is better in boardshorts' and if you have ever had the expereince of surfing tropical waters in nothing but a pair of boardshorts or a bikin, we are sure you will agree. When you can hear the waves breaking less than a few meters from your bedroom, and the water temperature is 30 Degrees, its hard to imagine how life could get any better.
We have been running winter surf coaching holidays to tropical destinations for over 20 years. We ran our first trip to Sri Lanka back in 2012 and quickly reaslied what a fantastic location it was for our groups. Our accommodation is directly on the beach, which makes the logistics of getting you and your surfboard into the waves about as easy as it can be. As well as warm water and sunshine, the surf conditions in Sri Lanka are renowned for being consistent and forgiving. Our trips cater for beginners to advanced intermediates and the waves that we have on our doorstep when coaching in Sri Lanka are as perfect as they can be for all surfers staying with us to progress their surfing an enormous amount over the period of their holiday.
During our last group holiday at the end of last year, we were lucky to be blessed with some of the best waves we have experienced during our time coaching in Sri lanka. For the duration of our month long stay on the island, we were lucky that the wave gods continually sent perfectly groomed swells into our camp. When you are on a surfing holiday, having good waves on a daily basis is probably the most improtant factor in dictating how much your surfing will improve. The less flat days, the better, but also having waves that are of a nature to allow you to practice the elements of your surfing that have been highlighted by our coaches is also improtant. This has always been the case during our trips to Sri Lanka, which is why we love the island so much, but throughout our time coaching on our last group holiday, the waves were perfect on a daily basis.
As well as the fantastic surf conditions and tropical location, Sri Lanka also offers fantastic cuisine, friendly locals and hundreds of stunning locations and activities to keep you entertained when you are not in the water surfing. With so much to offer, its no surprise that each year we go to Sri Lanka, we have a large group of returning customers as well as people traveling with us for the first time. The atmospher in the camp is always one of the most special parts of our group holidays. Hanging out as a group both in and out of the water makes for lifelong friendships to be made. Spending time with a group of people that share a mutual passion for riding waves makes our surfing holidays so much fun. Talking about the days waves over an ice cold beer and home cooked meal in the evening is the perfect way to end the day.
