We are extremely proud to be a centre of excellence for Surfing GB. This means that not only do we have the highest operating standards for delivering our surfing lessons, we are also able to be a training centre for both RLSS Beach Lifeguard and the International Surfing Association surf instructor qualifications. We regularly run the Level 1 surf instructor qualification and mentor new instructors as they start their coaching, but recently we ran our first Level 2 Advanced surf coach course.
The level 2 course aims to teach the coach how to deliver high level coaching programs to intermediate to expert level surfers. Focusing on a holistic approach to athlete development, the 3 day course covers such modules as physical fitness, movement patterns, biomechanics, video analysis, programme planning and periodisation, as well as judging and simulation training for surf performance. It follows on from the level 1 qualification and provides all coaches with the foundation knowledge to be able to coach at the highest level.
At the surf school we are already extreamly lucky to have 5 senior instructors qualified as Level 2 coaches. In addition to that, 3 of our younger experienced coaches Max, Jake and Lewis were able to attend the course run by our head coach John. As an added bonus, also attending the course was current Surfing GB head coach Damon Beveridge, former Team GB surfer and lifeguard Beau Bromham and ex WCT pro surfer Marcel Nunes. With such a high standard of coaches on the course, 3 days running workshops and coaching drills on Croyde beach as a group was extreamly productive. The vast knowledge and expereince of surfing and coaching at the highest level within the group meant that during the 3 days everyone was able to offer fantastic input and ideas for all modules on the syllabus , making it a very productive learning environment for everyone involved.
